Election recount for the posts of Republika Srpska President and Vice Presidents, following the reports on alleged irregularities after the October 2 general election, officially commenced at the Sarajevo vote counting centre on Thursday.

Suad Arnautovic, the chairman of Bosnia’s top electoral body, dismissed the accusations that this step was illegal. He also noted that the Central Election Commission was assigned with extended competencies in line with the recent amendments to Bosnia’s Election Law, imposed by international administrator Christian Schmidt.

“There is no politics and illegal actions here. We are overseeing elections in accordance with law as well as the available indications of burned ballots, marked ballots, irregular packing of electoral material, unused ballots, and we are publicly conducting the recount here,” said Arnautovic.
