A MiG-29K fighter aircraft of the Indian Navy crashed on Wednesday over the sea off Goa in western India, with the pilot ejecting safely, an official statement said.

A spokesman for the Indian Navy said that a MiG-29K “on a routine sortie” over the sea off Goa “developed a technical malfunction while returning to base.”

It said the pilot ejected safely and was recovered in a swift search and rescue operation.

The pilot is in stable condition, it added.

An investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash, the statement said.

In 2020, an Indian Navy pilot died after his MiG-29K crashed in the Arabian sea.
