India’s annual inflation rate hits 5-month high in September

India’s annual consumer inflation rate rose to a five-month high in September, according to data released on Wednesday.

Consumer prices jumped 7.41% year-on-year in September, up from 7% in August, the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation said.

The figure was above the market forecast of 7.3%, while it stood at 4.35% in September 2021.

Food prices were up 8.6% in September, climbing from 7.62% in August, but slowed down for fuel and light to 10.39% from 10.78.

On a monthly basis, India’s consumer prices index increased 0.57% in September.
